Automatic Discounts - How Does It Work?

Can you explain Automatic Discounts please?

I created a coupon code and then I put the coupon name in the "coupon" field of the automatic discount but it says "enter a valid value".

What am I doing wrong?

When entering the name, you will see a dropdown list of coupons that start with the letters you entered. You have to select one, not just enter the name If you do not you will receive the error.

1) I'm trying to do the following but the system is getting confused :)

I have a category that will always be buy one, get one 50% off - no code required. This works fine.

But I also want users to use coupons with that offer but when I enter the code it removes the above offer. I activated "Multiple Coupons" in the configuration.

What am I doing wrong please?

2) What are the "Number" and "Tag" fields for?

The only time coupons are kicked out of the cart if multiple coupons re enabled and are not limited is if the coupon is exclusive. Did you check the box 'individual use' only?

Not really sure what you mean by number. Tags are used internally for organizing your coupons, you can search by tags, and a few special tags:

Under "BuyX" and "GetY" there is a "Number" field. That is what is that Number field for?

Pretty much all the fields are described here:

The number is for X and Y. Example, buy 1 get 2, or buy 3 get 1. There is more info on setting up buy x get y coupons here:

Under "Number of Uses" it says:
Number: if both the dropdown and textfield are left blank, there is no limit.

What dropdown and textfield are you referring to?

Old layout. Will fix wording. Now its just 2 different text fields:
- Number of users total
- Number of users per customer
