How do I avoid charging tax for gift certificates for those states where tax is added for standard products?

As far as I am aware, Virtuemart does not give this ability to tax/not tax specific products in state taxes. This is the closest I could find to it, but it deals with VAT: http://dev.virtuemart.net/redmine/issues/166

Has this issue been fixed in 2.018a? I just purchased Awocoupon Pro and going crazy trying to find a workaround. Thanks.

For Virtuemart 2, taxes is controlled in the taxes and calculation rules, you should be able to avoid it for specific product there.

I am using version 2.4.9 of AWO Coupon Pro. Joomla version 3.5.1. Virtuemart version 3.0.16. I an having this same problem. There are 4 product categories in my store. One of those categories is "Gift Certificates" I have 2 Gift certificate products, both assigned to the Gift Certificate category. I have a tax rule that charges 7.5% sales tax on purchases made by Ohio Residents. I have that rule applied to all of my product categories EXCEPT for Gift Certificates. But when the Gift Certificate is put in the cart the 7.5% tax is added. I've been searching for an answer for 2 days now. How can I fix this?

    Thanks,
    Mike

That is a better solution. If you do not need any of the calc rules, then on the product apply no rules. Requires no code changes.
