Gift coupon also for shipping

I did not found a solution...
I sell gift certificates, which are not used with balance.

If the customer enters a higher valued code than the cart itself holds, the coupon also should reduce the shipping costs. Is that possible by default?
When it is not possible, please point me the direction for an override.

By default, a coupon with a function type of 'gift certificate' will automatically reduce shipping. It will not automatically reduce shipping if you select some assets (products, categories, etc) when creating the template. In this case, if you want it to also reduce shipping then you would need to also select the shipping options it should reduce.
