How to distinguish voluntary registration from referrals?

Hello,
In AWO Coupon Pro I created an automatic discount for new members and I have also activated the referrals feature to reward sponsors and friend in front of an invitation. However, those who register after receiving an invitation both gifts.

It is possible to distinguish those who register voluntarily by those who register after an invitation? For eg., By assigning them to different groups?

Joomla 2.5.13 and Virtuemart 2.0.22a.

The only way to tell if a user registered alone or as a friend is to view the referral list in aworeferral and check for the user there. If there as a friend, then the user is a referral, otherwise he is not.
