Buy X get Y - can be used multiple times? How?

Hello,

Scenario:

Customer purchases a pencil for $10 and gets a pencil sharpener for $1 (regular price $9)

I've created a coupon with the following:

Coupon code: pencil

Published

Start and expiration dates: Empty

Value: First found match (I don't understand this part) 8

Maximum discount amount: Empty

Optional Fields: All empty

Buy X

Number: 1

Type: Product

Mode: Include

Then I defined product X

Buy Y - same as for X but with a product Y

It works if but only for 1 product, say I've got 1 product x and one product y in the cart and it applies the discount correctly.

If I have two of products X and two of product Y then it applies single discount amount instead of twice the amount...

How can I have it discounted multiple times?

Is this an amount discount?  If so in the value section, set 'Amount per item'
